About 300,000 are still living in "temporary shelter". If the number doesn't move you, maybe this poem will...

Rain...photoRamonEspinoza
behind mountains
more mountains
behind sorrows
more sorrows
and hunger
rain or shine

the wind howls
and rain comes again
and again falls
dark and blind
morning same as evening
every year the same
and all the months the same
since i saw the light

there is no god
no god to watch over me
there is only the rising
of dark water around me

i lay on rags and plastic
i lay on a row of bricks
trying not to drown
trying not to die
weeping inside
as it rains outside
i will not sleep tonight

the summer trees will be full
of fruits
and the earth green
meanwhile outside
a hard rain falls
and the wind howls like a tightly nosed mongrel
